New Indy movie easily forgotten

Published by rudywrites at 3:40 pm under DVD Movies Edit This

Some movie sequels just didn’t need to be done but that doesn’t mean they weren’t good movies. Case in point: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

Crystal Skull didn’t really advance much on Harrison Ford’s Indy character except that it gave him a son from first movie gal pal, Marion (yep, Karen Allen’s back). I suppose I should have put a spoiler alert there but, come on, was anyone surprised by that revelation?

Still, despite there being little new, including in the action sequences, Crystal Skull still manages to be solid, fluffy entertainment. It’s paint by numbers, really, and that’s the movie’s downfall.

I’m sure George Lucas and Steven Spielberg were hoping for an installment to proudly put besides the previous three but Crystal Skull, while enough, is largely forgettable. Nothing stands out - save for the ant scene, which was pretty cool.

In my 1-10 ratings scale, this one gets a passing grade but just: 6.
